Vegetarian-Friendly Lick Mat Recipe

Post holidays, we’re all trying to save calories here and there. So, here’s Mabel’s New Year vegetarian-friendly dog treats enrichment activity.

Mabel’s Kale Yogurt Lick Mat Treats

Ingredients (takes a few minutes to put together)

Yogurt—a gob of any unflavored, unsweetened plain yogurt works excellent.

Applesauce—a teaspoon, unsweetened and plain only

Kale stems—Mabel loves stems but not leaves, and I love leaves but not stems—a handful will do

Water—enough to make the consistency broth-like

Licki Mat Slow Feeder—I just replaced some well-used mats with these and love the thickness, texture variety, and suction cups.

Bark Pouch Peanut Butter & Blueberry Dog Treats—adding a heart to my dog’s enrichment treats makes me happy.

The Process

I scoop a spoonful of yogurt into a mixing bowl, add a dollop of applesauce, and stir in the kale stems. It takes no time to pour the mixture onto the lick mat, spread the dog treats around with a spatula, and then freeze the mat.

I added Mabel’s heart treat right before serving her to ensure she knew how much I loved her as quickly as possible.
